Profile:
After years of prolific run-making at the national team, Cheteshwar Pujara had the opportunity to show his talents at international level in the test against Australia in Bangalore in 2010, and he made the count, moving Rahul Dravid at No. 3 and scoring a great 72 in a delicate fourth-sleeved long chase. In the process, he became the fifth Indian to score 50 or more rounds in the Fourth Report on debut. Then, after getting out of a large part of 2011 with a knee injury, he returned to Test cricket in style, scoring a composed century at No. 3 against New Zealand in Hyderabad in August 2012, in the first test of India since the retirement of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. This was followed by a double hundred and a hundred successive tests against England - at the time, the points scored and the way he has suggested that it might be a long-term replacement for Dravid at No. 3.
Pujara gameplan is simple and it plays within its limits. His technique is classic, standing at the crease and trusted by both sides of the field. In the World Cup, his 97 against West Indies and unbeaten 129 against England - an almost faultless rounds a day - has led to the top of the run charts, the last of his great teammates score Dhiman Gaurav and Rohit Sharma. One of the first run-getter in Ranji Trophy in the 2007-08 season, Pujara signed with Kolkata Knight Riders in the lucrative Indian Premier League in March 2008. In October of that year, he was selected for the Challenger Trophy and later scored two triple hundreds of Saurashtra in a tournament less than 22 years. He followed with another triple-century against Orissa in the Ranji Trophy 2008-09. His form continued through the next season, which prompted a call to the test team and Pujara responded with a first unforgettable performance.
